Albert Breer reports that the Vikings are going into Day 3 of the draft open to, but not actively shopping, deals for some of their more expensive veteran players.
According to Breer, the Vikings have gotten calls on TE Kyle Rudolph and CBs Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes.
Breer previously mentioned that Laquon Treadwell is likely available too.
The Vikings just drafted TE Irv Smith Jr last night, but GM Rick Spielman later explained that they’re fine keeping both Smith and Rudolph, seeing as their two different types of tight ends.
Breer has linked Rudolph to the Patriots, given that they could use a tight end after Rob Gronkowski retired.
Rudolph, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Vikings back in 2011. He’s currently in the final year of his five-year, $36,500,000 contract and stands to make a base salary $7,275,000 for the 2019 season.
Rudolph will be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2018, Rudolph appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and caught 64 passes for 634 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
Rhodes, 28, was taken with the No. 25 overall pick in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.402 million rookie contract when the Vikings picked up his fifth-year option.
Rhodes later agreed to a six-year, $78.126 million extension with $41 million guaranteed back in 2017. He stands to make base salaries of $10,400,000 and $9,900,000 over the next two years of the agreement.
According to OverTheCap.com, trading Rhodes would free up $6,137,500 of available cap space while creating $7.2 million in dead money.
In 2018, Rhodes appeared in 14 games for the Vikings and recorded 47 tackles, one interception and seven pass defenses.
Waynes, 26, is a former first-round pick out of Michigan State by the Vikings in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $12.944 million rookie contract when the Vikings picked up his fifth-year option last year.
Waynes stands to make a base salary of $9,069,000 for the 2019 season under his fifth-year option.
According to OverTheCap.com, trading Waynes would free up $9,069,000 of available cap space while creating no dead money.
In 2018, Waynes appeared in 14 games for the Vikings and recorded 44 tackles, one interception, and eight pass defenses.
