Vikings Releasing LS Kevin McDermott

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Vikings have informed veteran long snapper Kevin McDermott they’re releasing him on Sunday.

The Vikings plan to move forward with Austin Cutting as their long snapper.

McDermott, 29, originally signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA back in 2013. San Francisco wound up waiving him coming out of the preseason.

McDermott has brief stints with the Broncos and Ravens before signing on with the Vikings for the 2015 season. He was in the fourth year of his five-year, $4.675 million contract and set to make a base salary of $805,000 for the 2019 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing McDermott will free up $860,000 of available cap space while creating $100,000 in dead money.

In 2018, McDermott appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings.
