The Minnesota Vikings announced the signing of third-round pick RB Jerick McKinnon of Georgia Southern University.
The Vikings now have all of their 2014 draft picks under contract.
McKinnon’s four-year contract is worth an estimatedย $2,745,000 and includes a signing bonus of $515,000, according to OverTheCap.com.
McKinnon lined up all over the field in college, spending time at QB, RB, WR and even CB. ย He was used in a variety of packages, but was used primarily as a ball-carrier.
Minnesota will likely employ McKinnon in some sub-packages, but he has the potential to win the Vikings No.2 job behind RB Adrian Peterson. ย RB Toby Gerhart signed with Jacksonville this offseason, so McKinnon’s primary competition will likely be RB Matt Asiata. ย McKinnon could win the job if he proves effective as a pass blocker.
McKinnon ran for 3,899 yards and 42 touchdowns in his collegiate career. ย He added 12 passing touchdowns and one receiving.
