Per Ben Standig, Washington G Joshua Garnett plans to retire from the game of football.
Garnett has appeared in three games for the Washington Football Team this year but was inactive this past week after an illness.
He’s bounced around a number of teams since being selected in the first round in 2016 and has primarily been a backup.
Garnett, 26, is a former first-round pick by the 49ers in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was entering the second year of a four year $9.304 million rookie contract when the 49ers waived him coming out of the preseason.
Garnett worked his way back from an offseason knee scope last year. The Lions signed Garnett to a futures deal back in February but wound up cutting him loose back in August.
Washington later signed him to their practice squad last month and he’s been on and off of their roster this season.
In 2020, Garnett has been active for three games for Washington.
