Panthers LB Thomas Davis Has Broken Arm, Plans To Play In Super Bowl

Update:

The wife of Panthers LB Thomas Davis posted a photo of them on Instagram Monday morning that appears to show Davis prepping to undergo surgery on his broken arm.

The expectation was that Davis would have plate installed to protect the broken bone and give him a shot at playing in the Super Bowl.

Panthers LB Thomas Davis told reporters after Sunday’s game that he has a broken arm, but has no plans to miss the Super Bowl.

I’ve got two weeks to heal up,” Davis said. “Come on, you know me. I ain’t missing the Super Bowl, you know that.”

While that may be his intention, David Chao mentions that it’s not just a pain issue for Davis, as he’ll also need to stabilize his injured arm with a plate and/or cast.

Davis left grabbing his forearm and will have an X-ray taken to determine the severity of his injury.

Davis, 32, is in the first year of his three-year, $18 million contract that includes $11.5 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $1 million this season to go along with $2.75 million in 2016 and another $3.25 million in 2017.

This season, Davis appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers and recorded 105 tackles, 5.5 sacks, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, a recovery and seven pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 10 outside linebacker out of 35 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Davis’ injury as the news is available.
