49ers Free Up $1M In Cap Space By Waiving OT Jonathan Martin

The San Francisco 49ers announced Thursday that they have placed OT Jonathan Martin on waivers.

This comes just over a year after the 49ers sent a seventh-round pick to the Dolphins in return for Martin.

Martin, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2012. He lasted two years in Miami before he left the team in response to the bullying situation that led to Richie Incognito taking an extended leave from the team.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Martin will free up $1,042,400 in available cap space for the 49ers while creating no dead money.

In 2014, Martin appeared in 15 games and played a total of 661 snaps for the 49ers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 60 offensive tackle in the league out of 84 qualifying players.
