49ers Place WR Quinton Patton On I.R. & Promote WR DeAndre Smelter

The 49ers are placing WR Quinton Patton on injured reserve and promoting WR DeAndre Smelter to their active roster on Tuesday, according to Matt Maiocco.

Patton, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the 49ers in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Louisiana Tech. He is in the final year of a four-year, $2.551 million rookie contract that included a $391,500 signing bonus and is set to make a base salary of $675,000 this season.

Patton went down with a foot injury during Week 15’s game against the Falcons.

In 2016, Patton appeared in 14 games for the 49ers and recorded 37 receptions for 208 yards receiving with no touchdowns. ProFootballFocus rates him as the No. 100 overall wide receiver out of 118 qualifying players.

Smelter, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the 49ers back in 2015. He was in the second year of his four-year, $2.28 million rookie contract when the 49ers waived him back in August with an injury designation.

Smelter reverted to the injured reserve list after clearing waivers before he was later waived with an injury settlement coming out of the preseason. The 49ers signed him to their practice squad back in October after he cleared waivers.

Smelter has yet to appear in an NFL game.
