49ers Unlikely To Sign QB This Week, Tom Savage Considered Favorite To Eventually Sign

Jim Trotter reports that the 49ers have no plans to sign a veteran quarterback to a contract this week, but it remains a possibility in the near future.

San Francisco brought in seven free agents quarterbacks for tryouts on Tuesday and Mike Garafolo says that Tom Savagesounds like the favorite to sign eventually.”

The 49ers plan to move forward with C.J. Beathard as their starting quarterback now that Jimmy Garoppolo is out for the season with a torn ACL.

Savage, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Texans back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.52 million contract and made a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

The Saints signed Savage to a one-year, $1.5 million deal back in March, but was released coming out of the preseason.

In 2017, Savage appeared in eight games and completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 1412 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions. The Texans placed him on injured reserve after he suffered a scary concussion.
