AFC Notes: Bills, Jets, Patriots, Raiders

Bills

  • The Buffalo Bills announced Thursday that second-round WR Zay Jones has a knee injury and is week-to-week.
  • The Bills have hired Lake Dawson as assistant director of college scouting.

Jets

Patriots

According to Jason McCourty, there was “definitely mutual interest” between him and the Patriots before he recently agreed to a two-year contract with the Browns.

I think there was definitely mutual interest,” McCourty said Thursday on “Good Morning Football” via NFL.com. “Me and Devin have never hid the fact that us playing together would be a dream come true. My mom kind of has hinted at that since we both got into the league. She knows it would be a lot easier only having to travel to one city during the season.

“I think there was definitely mutual interest, but to be honest, the Patriots are kind of set at cornerback. They have a lot of talent in that room. There really wasn’t room for me. Me and Dev talked about that and that’s just the way of the league. I’m excited about the opportunity I have in Cleveland to work with those guys.

Raiders

  • Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com writes that one issue that could factor into contracts between the Raiders and QB Derek Carr is that the current collective bargaining agreement expires after the 2020 season.
  • The expectation has been that Carr would get a similar long-term extension to Andrew Luck, but because the financial landscape could change in 2021, it’s possible they could consider a different type deal.
  • One possibility, according to Breer, could be a three-year extension that could expire when the CBA does and after the Raiders first year in Las Vegas.
  • Another option would be to do a three-year contract and then tie the final years of the contract to percentages of the salary cap.
