AFC West Notes: Hunter Henry, Chargers, Chiefs

Hunter Henry

The Chargers activated the three-week practice window of time for TE Hunter Henry to be added to their active roster.

Henry says he’s been focused on returning to the team this season, despite suffering an ACL tear back in May.

“I’m not surprised,” Henry said, via Chargers.com. “I had [being back] in my mind, and tried to push for that since the get-go. I worked as hard as I could, and there’s a lot of work still to do to get back out there. … It’ll be different but good to get back in the flow of things. I’m geared up and ready to go, but it’s a long journey, and it’s cool to have an opportunity like this.

Chargers

Chargers RB Melvin Gordon mentioned that he plans to “knock off some rust” in preparation for the playoffs.

“It’s going to be tough,” Gordon said, via Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times. “But we’re going to go out there and knock off some rust and get myself ready for the playoffs.

Gordon lobbied HC Anthony Lynn to return from his MCL sprain last week, but he ultimately decided to hold Gordon out.

He was just trying to look out for what’s best for me and what’s best for the team,” Gordon said. “He felt it would be selfish to put me out there and something potentially happens and [they] lose me for the rest of the year.

Chiefs

Chiefs S Eric Berry says he “felt pretty good” about the 30 snaps he played last week’s game against the Chargers.

“I got a few different looks I couldn’t get at practice,” Berry said, via the Kansas City Star.I felt like we handled them well as a defense. Short week, but I think we did pretty well.

“I thought he did OK,” Chiefs HC Andy Reid said of Berry. “I thought he did good. He hasn’t had pads on since training camp and that was only for a couple of days there, so it’s kind of expected. Nice and slow with it. That’s kind of where we are at. We didn’t expect him to play the whole game.”
