Antonio Brown Not Expected To Be Available If Steelers Play In Wildcard Round

Adam Schefter, citing a league source, reports that Steelers WR Antonio Brown is not expected to be ready for the wild-card round of the playoffs after he suffered a partially torn calf muscle in Week 15.

According to Schefter, the Steelers would have to clinch a bye in order to increase the odds of having Brown available for their first playoff game.

As of now, Pittsburgh is vying for one of the conference’s two top seeds, so it’s possible that this won’t be an issue for them.

Calf injuries can be troublesome, as they tend to linger.

Brown was attempting to make a catch in the end zone last week when his leg appeared to get somewhat trapped under a Patriots’ defender and suffer the calf injury.

Brown, 29, is a former sixth-round pick of the Steelers back in 2010. He’s currently in the first year of his five-year, $72.71 million contract that included a $19 million signing bonus and stands to make base salaries of $7.875 million and 12.625 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Brown had appeared in 14 games and caught 101 passes for 1,533 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Brown’s injury as the news is available.
