Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears plan to sign veteran center Will Montgomery to replace Roberto Garza, who is being released.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Montgomery will receive a one-year contract.

Montgomery, 31, is a former seventh round pick of the Panthers back in 2006. He later caught on with the Jets before joining the Redskins as a free agent in 2008.

Pro Football Focus had Montgomery down for playing 1172 snaps last season and grading out as the No. 15 center in league last season. He was a solid run-blocker, according to their ratings, and should be an upgrade to Garza.
