Bills Expected To Sign QB Derek Anderson To Mentor Josh Allen

Chris Mortensen reports that the Bills are expected to sign veteran QB Derek Anderson to serve as a mentor in the next 24 hours to rookie QB Josh Allen.

According to Mortensen, it’s possible that Anderson could even see some playing time.

Mortensen adds that Anderson’s experience and familiarity with HC Sean McDermott and GM Brandon Beane from their time together in Carolina helped him get this job over some other available options like Landry Jones and Paxton Lynch.

Anderson, 35, is a former sixth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2005. He lasted just a few months in Baltimore before he was claimed off of waivers by the Browns.

Anderson spent five years with the Browns before joining the Cardinals in 2010. Anderson has since spent the past seven years as the Panthers’ backup to Cam Newton.

In 2017, Anderson appeared in three games and completed 2 of 8 pass attempts for 17 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions.
