Browns Tried To Trade For WR Terrelle Pryor Before Deadline

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that the Browns attempted to trade for WR Terrelle Pryor before the trade deadline, but the Redskins weren’t interested in parting with him.

Had the Browns been able to acquire Pryor, Cabot points out that they would have only owed him $1.5 million for the second half of the regular season.

A source tells Cabot that Pryor most likely would not have been opposed to a trade back to the Browns, considering that he loved playing for HC Hue Jackson last year.

The Browns reportedly offered Pryor $8 million per year over the course of four years last the 2016 season. However, Pryor was seeking as much as $10-$14 million per year on the open market before he eventually agreed to a one-year, $6 million contract that included $2 million in incentives with the Redskins.

If Cleveland would have traded for Pryor, Cabot says they likely would have attempted to sign him long term before he tests the open market again next March.

Of course, the Browns can always wait until next year to sign him to a contract without parting with draft compensation.

Pryor, 28, was taken by the Raiders in the third round of the 2011 supplemental draft. He lasted a little over three years in Oakland before he was traded to the Seahawks for a seventh-round pick that ultimately became DB Jonathan Dowling.

Pryor briefly played for the Chiefs and Bengals before later being claimed off of waivers by the Browns. Cleveland elected to cut him loose to make room for RB Robert Turbin last year before bringing him back.

The Browns signed him to a one-year, $1.67 million restricted deal in 2016. Pryor signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Redskins last March.

In 2017, Pryor has appeared in eight games for the Redskins and caught 20 passes for 240 yards receiving and one touchdown.
