Bucs Place DT Gerald McCoy, TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins & WR Louis Murphy On I.R.

Buccaneers HC Lovie Smith announced Monday that they are placing a number of players on season-ending injured reserve including DT Gerald McCoy, TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, and WR Louis Murphy, per Jenna Laine.

Tampa Bay is currently in position to secure the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL draft, so there really isn’t much to play for at this point in the year.

McCoy sustained a hyperextended knee during Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers. He signed a brand new seven-year, $98 million extension with the team back in October.

McCoy’s 2014 season ends with him recording 35 tackles, 8.5 sacks and a forced fumble over the course of 13 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2 defensive tackle in the league this year.

The Buccaneers used the No. 38 overall pick on Seferian-Jenkins back in May, but his rookie season wound up being a large disappointment.

His first year ends with him catching 21 passes for 221 yards receiving and two touchdowns over the course of nine games.
