Chargers Sign RB Terrell Watson, Waive/Injured LB James Onwualu

The Los Angeles Chargers announced Wednesday that they’ve signed RB Terrell Watson to a contract and waived LB James Onwualu with an injury designation.

Should Onwualu clear waivers tomorrow, he would revert to the Chargers’ injured serve list.

Watson, 25, originally signed on with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of Azusa Pacific back in 2015. He was unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but was later added to the Bengals’ practice squad at the start of the 2015 season.

Watson had brief stints with the Browns, Broncos and Eagles before the Steelers signed him to a contract last May. Unfortunately, the Steelers later cut him loose in November and he was on and off of their practice squad.

The Giants signed Watson to a futures contract this past January only to cut him loose shortly after this year’s draft.

In 2017, Watson appeared in 10 games for the Steelers and rushed for eight yards on five carries (1.6 YPC) and contributed 140 kick return yards.
