Colts Close To Re-Signing K Adam Vinatieri To One-Year Deal

Bob Kravitz is reporting that the Colts and K Adam Vinatieri are “very close” to an agreement on a one-year contract to keep him in Indianapolis.

According to Kravitz, a deal between the two parties could be finalized as soon as Thursday.

Vinatieri said a few months ago that he would love to be back with the Colts for the 2018 season, but he understands that he’ll have to see how things play out in the coming months.

“I feel like my body is still in good shape, and I can help and contribute to a team,” Vinatieri said, via Colts.com. “So, hopefully it’s here. We’ll see. It’s a business. I understand how all that works, so we’ll see where it goes.”

“I’ve been very fortunate to play on two very successful teams, franchises, over 22 years, and I enjoy playing on teams that win games,” Vinatieri added. “So, hopefully we can get back there on this team as well, but that always plays a factor. It’s fun playing in January, February. It’s fun having a chance to play for a championship.”

Vinatieri said the Colts and his teammates are like family to him.

“Yeah, obviously, this is a family to me,” Vinatieri said of the Colts. “I’ve been in this building for a long time. I know most of the people that work in it, if not all of them, and obviously, these guys in the locker room fighting on the field with me are my brothers as well. So, it’d be nice to stick around. My family is comfortable here, but we’ll see how it goes.”

Vinatieri, 45, originally signed on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of South Dakota State back in 1996. He played seven years in New England before signing on with the Colts in 2006.

Since then, Vinatieri has played another 12 years in Indianapolis and is in position to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2017, Vinatieri appeared in 15 games for the Colts and converted 29 of 34 field goal attempts (85.3 percent) to go along with 22 of 24 extra point tries (91.7 percent).
