Colts GM Chris Ballard Denies Seahawks Offered 2nd-Rd Pick For Jacoby Brissett

ESPN’s Booger McFarland (via Pro Football Talk) said during Monday night’s preseason game that Colts GM Chris Ballard told him that the Seahawks did not attempt to trade for backup QB Jacoby Brissett.

A recent report mentioned that Seattle actually offered a second-round pick to the Colts for Brissett, which was curious given that Seattle doesn’t have a 2019 second-round pick, have Russell Wilson in place as their starter and Brissett has one year left on his rookie deal.

Jason La Canfora also denied that the Seahawks offered the Colts a second-round pick for Brissett.

Colts owner Jim Irsay recently said that they have no intention of trading Brissett, even for a first-round pick.

“All of a sudden, we have the best backup quarterback in football,” Irsay said, via the Indianapolis Star. “I don’t think we’d accept a (first-round pick in a trade) for him, we think he’s that good.

Brissett, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Patriots back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $3.411 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $735,076 and $890,114 over the next two years.

The Patriots traded Brisset to the Colts coming out of the preseason last year in return for WR Phillip Dorsett.

In 2017, Brissett had appeared in all 16 games and thrown for 3,098 yards while completing 58.8 percent of his passes to go along with 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 240 yards and four touchdowns.
