Cowboys Rookie DE Randy Gregory Out 4-6 Weeks With High-Ankle Sprain

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that an MRI Monday confirmed that second-round pick DE Randy Gregory did, in fact, sustained a high-ankle sprain during Sunday night’s game against the Giants.

  • According to Rapoport, Gregory’s timetable to return is four to six weeks.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters following Sunday night’s game that second-round pick DE Randy Gregory suffered a high ankle sprain.

Gregory could end up missing four to six weeks with this injury. However, they should know more regarding his timetable once they’ve completed further testing.

The good news is that Gregory said he does not have a fracture in his injured ankle, per Ed Werder.

Dallas lost star WR Dez Bryant for the same period of time, due to a broken bone in his foot, so this is clearly disappointing news for the Cowboys.

Greg Hardy still has another three games to serve before he’s back from his suspension, and the expectation was that Gregory could offer some time and gain some valuable experience in the first few weeks of the season.

The Cowboys have their bye in Week 6, which means unless he progresses quicker than expected, Week 7 could be the most logical return date for Gregory.

We’ll have more regarding Gregory’s injury as the news is available.
