Falcons RB Devonta Freeman Out 2-3 Weeks With Knee Contusion

Adam Schefter reports that Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is expected to be sidelined two to three weeks with a knee contusion.

Earlier in the week, Falcons HC Dan Quinn mentioned that Freeman does not have any structural damage in his knee.

Atlanta will start Tevin Coleman in place of Freeman with rookie Ito Smith operating as their No. 2 running back.

Freeman, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $2.7 million contract when he and the Falcons agreed to a five-year, $41.25 million extension that included $22 million guaranteed last year.

Freeman stands to make base salaries of $2 million and $3.75 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Freeman has appeared one game and rushed for 36 yards on six carries (6 YPC) to go along with three receptions for 14 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
