Geno Smith “On The Verge” Of Losing QB Battle To Mark Sanchez.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Mark Sanchez is close to winning the Jets quarterback battle against rookie Geno Smith.

According to Mehta, Smith is “on the verge” of losing the competition, which many had predicted would be his by the start of the season, to Sanchez despite GM John Idzik‘s preference on the West Virginia product.

While the feeling is Sanchez has won the job “fair and square“, an ankle injury suffered has been the cause of Smith’s undoing. Idzik has insisted on providing any type of help necessary for him to win the job, but the plan has backfired for Smith as his health has failed to improve, which led to a “brutal” week of practice.

Unless the offense undergoes a massive revival, Sanchez is expected to temporarily hold the job as Idzik and Co. will push Smith in if Sanchez and the team begin to struggle.

  1. The Jets had a real QB. They sold him to the Patriots…..Sanchize will never win in the NFL. Never. Nada. Zilch. Zero, not hero. Period.

  2. By the end of the season Idzik and Smith will both be gone. The Jets owner loves Ryan and Ryan loves Sanchez. End of story…End of the Jets…
