The news broke last night the Oakland Raiders have made the decision to hire Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie to be their next GM. This turns the attention to Raiders head coach Hue Jackson who could be in jeopardy of losing his job depending on things play out.
Pro Football Talks Mike Florio writes that the chances of Jackson being replaced have increase by the teams decision to hire McKenzie.
Jackson had been publicly lobbying for more control over the team but this hire would suggests that the Raiders choose to keep more control centered in their front office rather than with their coaching staff. Jackson decision to express his desires publicly could come back to haunt him as McKenzie could look to replace Jackson rather than deal with a number of questions regarding the direction of the team.
Certainly this involves a good deal of speculation but Florio’s point is consistent with what we’ve seen in the NFL and certainly more plausible than it seemed to be during the season.
