Jerry Jones Says He Wouldn’t Consider Trading Dak Prescott For Two 1st-Rd Picks

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been clear that Dak Prescott is the team’s quarterback of the future and plans to get an extension in place for him.

Jones said recently that he wouldn’t consider trading Prescott, even if a team offered him two first-round picks.

“When I say man, he’s our future,” Jones said, via the Star-Telegram. “I don’t know how we could ask for more, to have this opportunity for him to progress the way he has. If someone walked in here right now and looked like they were going to get the No. 1 pick in the draft and said we’ll give you two picks for Dak. I wouldn’t even consider it. No.

Jones explained that they’re aware of what Prescott’s issues are, but they like the experience he’s gained since entering the league had how hard he’s worked to get better.

“It’s been so rare and so impressive how he has done,” Jones said. “That’s almost unattainable. When you compare to how he had played for him to have these gains under his belt. His biggest asset is how he takes what he learns and his experiences. He doesn’t repeat it. This is what we want.

Prescott will be one of the more interesting contract negotiations to watch next year, depending on how he finishes the season.

Prescott, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.72 million contract and set to make base salaries of $630,000 and $720,000 over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Prescott has appeared in nine games for the Cowboys and completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 1,930 yards to go along with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has also rushed for 256 yards and three touchdowns.
