Jets Hosted CB Bene Benwikere For Visit, Could Be Candidate For Futures Deal

Field Yates of ESPN is reporting that the Jets brought in veteran CB Bene Benwikere for a visit in recent days.

Yates says that Benwikere could be a candidate to sign a future/reserve contract with the Jets.

Benwikere, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He’s was in the third year of his four-year, $2.419 million contract and set to make a base salary of $600,000 for the 2016 season when the Panthers elected to cut him loose back in October.

Benwikere was later claimed off of waivers by the Dolphins. However, Miami cut him loose soon after and he was later added to their practice squad. The Packers later signed him to their practice squad a few weeks ago but his contract later expired.

In 2016, Benwikere has appeared in four games for the Panthers and recorded 10 tackles, one interception and four pass defenses for the Panthers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 87 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
