Jets QB Bryce Petty Has Grade 1 MCL Injury

Update:

Adam Schefter reports that the Jets got good news regarding backup QB Bryce Petty, as he suffered just a Grade 1 MCL sprain and is hoping to play in Thursday’s preseason finale.

According to Schefter, Petty should be ready in time for the regular season.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Jets QB Bryce Petty is believed to have suffered a “considerable” MCL injury. However, his ACL is believed to be spared.

Petty is scheduled to undergo an MRI to confirm the damage to his knee.

Last night, Petty explained that his knee “is not stable” and actually felt “loose.”

It kind of felt weird, it felt loose, which is not something you want to feel as an athlete,” Petty said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.

This, obviously, is a bad sign for Petty, but Jets HC Todd Bowles didn’t rule him out.

“I’ll wait until [Sunday] and hear the test results,” Bowles said. “Bryce is a tough guy. We’ll see how it goes.”

Petty, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Jets back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2,833,696 contract and set to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2016, Petty appeared in six games for the Jets and completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 809 yards receiving to go along with three touchdowns and seven interceptions.
