Latest Regarding Jets Possibly Trading QB Teddy Bridgewater

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily reports that the Jets are “open for business” in regards to trading QB Teddy Bridgewater as long as they fully expect rookie QB Sam Darnold to be ready to open the season as their starting quarterback.

Darnold has stood out since joining the team a few days into training camp and with veteran QB Josh McCown also on their roster, it would make sense for the Jets to make Bridgewater available for trade and see if they can recoup a decent draft pick for him.

Even so, Mehta says that the idea of trading Bridgewater isn’t unanimous within the Jets, as there are some who would prefer to keep him and Darnold for the 2018 season.

According to Mehta, some believe the Jets tough three-game stretch to open the season, which includes games against  Lions, Dolphins and Browns in the first 11 days, could scar Darnold.

Executives around the NFL have told Mehta that they still more from Bridgewater before they would consider parting with draft compensation for him.

Bridgewater worked his way back from a major knee injury last year, but there’s still some question about him his knee moving forward.

Bridgewater, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $6,849,502 rookie contract after Minnesota declined to pick up his fifth-year option.

Bridgewater signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Jets this offseason that includes just $500,000 guaranteed, so it wouldn’t be difficult for New York to move on in the coming months.

In 2017, Bridgewater appeared in one game for the Vikings and was 0-2 passing and threw an interception.

We’ll have more regarding the Jets and Bridgewater as the news is available.
