Lions Working Out Veteran LB Pat Angerer

Aaron Wilson, citing a league source, reports that the Detroit Lions are working out free agent LB Pat Angerer Tuesday.

The Falcons signed Angerer this offseason, but he was unable to secure a roster spot on the team’s final 53-man roster.

Angerer has since worked out for the Rams, Saints and Jets.

Detroit could use depth at the linebacker position, particularly after the bizarre season-ending injury to LB Stephen Tulloch, sustained while celebrating a sack of Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.

The Lions also have promising OLB Kyle Van Noy on the short term IR list, so the second level of their defense could use some healthy bodies.

Angerer, 27, was selected by the Colts in the second-round draft of the 2010 NFL Draft. Last year, he totaled 63 tackles, 0.5 sacks and an interception over the course of 11 games. Pro Football Focus had Angerer rates as the No. 36 inside linebacker in the league last season.
