Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network is reporting that the Carolina Panthers will use their franchise tag on C Ryan Kalil. We already mentioned that the Panthers would not use their tag on DeAngelo Williams and would instead deside between Kalil or DE Charles Johnson.
Kalil would have been hard to keep if he wound up hitting the free agent market mainly because of the premium that comes with the center position. This move will help them establish a solid offensive line for whoever ends up being their starting quarterback.
The bad news is that both Charles Johnson and DeAngelo Williams will be hot commodities on the open market so Carolina will be hard pressed to keep them if they’re not able to re-sign either one before March 4th.
