49ers
Newly signed 49ers QB Christian Ponder admitted that he considered hanging it up if a team didn’t call him this season about an opportunity.
“That crossed my mind,” said Ponder when asked if he thought he may not get another opportunity in the NFL, via Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. “My plan was to stay ready for this season anyway and see what happens. If nothing happened all year, it would be time to hang it up. I was going to give myself this season and see what happens.”

Giants
Giants K Josh Brown addressed his one-game suspension on Thursday for a domestic violence incident that occurred over a year ago.
“I’m not going to go into detail about anything,” Brown said, via Pro Football Talk. “My major concern is my three kids and the things that are put out there and the things that are being said. This moment happened over a year ago. The case was dropped five days after the moment happened. We’ve moved on with our lives at this point. While I’m not OK with the decision, I have to respect it. So I look forward to a 15-game season and moving forward with my teammates.”

Patriots
- Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Patriots QB Tom Brady “will take little to no snaps” in the second preseason game.
- Instead, the Patriots remain focused on getting Jimmy Garoppolo ready for the 2016 season.
Vikings
Vikings former first-round WR Cordarrelle Patterson explained that the past few years have “humbled” him.
“I’ve had a wake-up call these past two years,” Patterson said, via the Matt Vensel of the Star-Tribune. “It’s been a humbling experience for me, coming off a good rookie year, getting your spot taken, then a year after that not playing. I’ve been in that fire and I feel like I’ve handled it better than anybody else could handle it.
“I’ve been humbled by it. I’ve cheered my teammates on. I haven’t been a knucklehead and gotten in trouble, not going out drinking and partying and getting in trouble with the cops. I feel like I handled it good. Some people could [let it be] their downfall and start stressing about it and saying, ‘I need to drink every day,’ and they do that and get a DUI. Or they want to smoke and get in trouble like that. That’s not something I wanted to do.”
