NFL Notes: Chiefs, Colts, Raiders, Rams, & Texans

Chiefs & Raiders

Kevin Rose, former high school coach of Alabama LB Reggie Ragland, told WHNT News that he has already received letters from the Raiders and Chiefs regarding Ragland’s time as a prep athlete.

“I got one from the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs today,” Rose said. “They are looking back on his character and work ethic in high school which is a great message for our kids. Don’t think that what you do when you are 16-17 and 18 years old is unimportant, it’s going to follow you for the rest of your life.

Ragland wound up receiving a second-round grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board last year, which prompted him to return to Alabama for his senior season.

Colts

Rams

  • Jason Cole of B/R reports that Rams HC Jeff Fisher believes first-round RB Todd Gurley could be better than former Titans RBs Eddie George and Chris Johnson.
  • Fisher reiterated that they intend to bring him along slowly and not rush him to return for their first game of the season.

Texans

A day after he reportedly overslept the Texans’ practice, backup QB Ryan Mallett returned on time for their Friday session.

“The situation with Ryan not being at practice that’s between Ryan and I,” O’Brien said, per Aaron Wilson. “Some things are left within the team.”
