NFL Notes: Earl Thomas, Michael Bennett, Randy Gregory

Earl Thomas

A source tells Mike Fisher of 247Sports.com that Seahawks S Earl Thomas will be in training camp by the end of July. The only question is with who.

He’ll be in somebody’s training camp at the end of July,” Fisher’s source said.

Fisher says he still wouldn’t put a lot of money on the Cowboys trading for Thomas at this point in time.

The Cowboys reportedly considered offering their second-round pick to the Seahawks before they selected OL Connor Williams in this year’s draft. Fisher says that the Cowboys actually made their third-round pick available but the Seahawks never called them back.

With this in mind, Fisher says the parameters for compensation would likely be in the range of a future second-round pick in return for Thomas.

Complicating matters further is the fact that anyone who trades for Thomas will have to turn around and sign him to a massive contract extension. The expectation has been that Thomas will likely be looking for a similar contract to the $13 million per year and $40 million guaranteed Eric Berry got from the Chiefs.

Michael Bennett

  • Rusty Hardin, the attorney for Eagles DE Michael Bennett, tells Tom Pelissero that his arraignment in Texas has been rescheduled again and is now set for August 7.
  • According to Pelissero, Bennett’s legal team is still in the discovery process trying to get any videotape that shows Bennett entering the field before the alleged incident occurred.
  • Pelissero adds that the hope for Bennett and his legal team is that the case dismissed before the regular season. However, if it ends up going to trial, it most likely would happen after the season.

Randy Gregory

  • Suspended Cowboys DE Randy Gregory met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a few weeks ago for his official reinstatement hearing (NFLTR).
  • There hasn’t been an update since then, but Todd Archer says that the Cowboys are hoping to hear from the NFL about whether Gregory will be reinstated by the start of training camp next month.
