“No Sure Thing” Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger Is Back Next Week

Despite some recent optimism that Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger could be back for the team’s Week 9 game against the Ravens, Adam Schefter reports that Roethlisberger is “no sure thing” for next Sunday.

A source tells Schefter that “we’re still a few weeks out.”

Roethlisberger was given an initial 4-6 week timetable after he underwent surgery for a meniscus injury but there has been a lot of talk about him being back closer to two weeks.

The Steelers have been forced to make due with Landry Jones as their starter and Zach Mettenberger as their No. 2 option.

Roethlisberger, 34, is in the second year of his five-year, $99 million contract that includes $64 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $17.75 million for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Roethlisberger had completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 1,685 yards to go along with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 21 quarterback out of 35 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Roethlisberger’s return as the news is available.
