Packers Hosted S D.J. Swearinger For A Visit

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Packers brought in free agent S D.J. Swearinger for a visit on Monday.

The Packers rarely bring in notable free agents for workouts mid-season, so this is somewhat interesting news. Micah Hyde left Sunday’s game with a hip injury, so Green Bay could be looking for some more help at the position.

Swearinger, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Texans out of South Carolina back in 2013. He still has two years remaining on his four-year, $3.49 million rookie contract, which includes base salaries of $722,390 and $881,085 over the next two years.

The Texans waived Swearinger shortly after the draft, but he was later claimed by the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay cut him loose last week.

This season, Swearinger has appeared in seven games for the Buccaneers and recorded 12 tackles and a fumble recovery.
