Panthers DE Greg Hardy Signs His Franchise Tender

Panthers DE Greg Hardy wasted no time signing him one-year franchise tender worth $13.116 million fully guaranteed as he officially signed the agreement on Tuesday.

This move ensures that Hardy will not be signing with another team that’s willing to part with two first round picks in order to pry him away from the Panthers.

Carolina now has a a greater incentive to work out a long-term contract with Hardy as he carries a sizable cap figure and would be in the same exact position next year if an agreement can’t be reached before then.

The two sides are expected to continue discussing an extension throughout the offseason, but Hardy has made it clear that he will be looking for a huge contract, which is going to make it pretty hard on Panthers GM Dave Gettlemen.

As of now, the Panthers have close to $6 million in available cap space to work with, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them approach DE Charles Johnson about restructuring his contract to free up some more cap space.
