Patriots Release QB Matt Flynn, Sign QB Ryan Lindley

Update:

The Patriots officially announced the signing of QB Ryan Lindley as well as the release of veteran QB Matt Flynn.

Dianna Marie Russini reports that the Patriots have released veteran QB Matt Flynn on Monday.

Meanwhile, ESPN’s Field Yates reports that New England is replacing Flynn with QB Ryan Lindley.

Flynn, 29, hadn’t found any reported interest on the open market before the Patriots signed him to a one-year deal back in June.

Obviously, the Patriots were looking to bolster their depth at quarterback following the four-game suspension handed down to Tom Brady for his role in DeflateGate, but it appears as though they would prefer to see what Lindley is capable of.

In 2014, Flynn appeared in seven games and threw for 66 yards while completing 50 percent of his passes to go along with no touchdowns and an interception in garbage time for the Packers.

Lindley, 26, is a former sixth-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2012. He spent two years in Arizona before he was released and later caught on with the Chargers. Lindley actually returned to the Cardinals last year.
