Raiders & Donald Penn Agree To Restructured Deal

Michael Gehlken reports that the Raiders and LT Donald Penn have agreed to a restructured contract on Monday.

  • According to Gehlken, the Raiders get more team-friendly parameters in terms of Penn’s deal while he receives more guaranteed money over next two years than he otherwise was set to earn.
  • Ian Rapoport confirms the news and adds that Penn is taking a “small pay cut” to ensure he remains with the team.

Gehlken previously reported that Oakland approached Penn about taking a pay cut and his future with the Raiders may have been contingent on reworking his contract.

However, it looks like the two parties were able to come to an agreement that works for both parties.

Penn is currently on the PUP list as he works his way back from a Lisfranc fracture he suffered last year that ultimately required surgery.

Penn, 35, originally signed on with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Utah State back in 2006. After a few months in Minnesota, Penn signed on with the Buccaneers during his rookie season and spent eight years in Tampa Bay before he was released back in 2014.

The Raiders signed Penn to a contract soon after before signing him to a $21M extension last year.

In 2017, Penn appeared in 14 games for the Raiders and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 23 offensive tackle out of 81 qualifying players.
