Raiders OLB Khalil Mack Not In Attendance For Start Of Offseason Workouts

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Raiders OLB Khalil Mack did not show up for the first day of offseason workouts on Monday.

It’s worth mentioning that these are voluntary workouts and it won’t cost Mack any money by missing them. However, Rapoport says this is unusual for mack, especially considering the fact that he has still yet to sign a long-term deal with the Raiders.

Rapoport adds that Mack has the same agent as CB Trumaine Johnson, who just played out the past two years under the franchise tag.

The Raiders have been discussing an extension for Mack this offseason, but Michael Gehlken says that talks between the two parties weren’t close.

Last year, Mack said he’s hoping to finish out his career as a member of the Raiders.

Of course. That’s not even a question,” Mack said. “That’s a no-brainer for me, especially when you think about coming into this organization and try to build something special, that’s something you want to be a part of for a lifetime”

Mack, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Raiders back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $18,677,002 contract and set to make a base salary of $690,000 to go along with a $2,276,865 roster bonus for the 2017 season when Oakland picked up his fifth-year option last year.

In 2017, Mack appeared in nine games for the Raiders and recorded 78 tackles, 10.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a recovery and three pass defenses.  Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 edge defender out of 106 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding an extension for Mack as the news is available.
