Rams Hire Rob Ryan Defensive Coordinator

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the St Louis Rams have hired Rob Ryan as their next defensive coordinator.

The Rams interviewed Ryan last Friday, but he wound up leaving without a contract offer. However, Ryan has been considered the favorite for their defensive coordinator for weeks now, so it’s not all that surprising that he was given the job.

Ryan has experience running 3-4 defensive schemes, while Jeff Fisher primarily employs a 4-3 base defense, so it will be interesting to see if they do in fact make the transition to a 3-4 next year.

ESPN’s Mike Sando tweets that he expects Ryan to assimilate himself to Rams current 4-3 scheme versus changing to a 3-4 next year.

  1. i would imagine he would have to adapt to the 4-3. i can’t see brockers as a nose tackle in a 3-4. he just doesn’t take up enough space.
