Redskins Sign RB Chris Thompson To Two-Year Extension

The Washington Redskins announced Tuesday that they’ve signed RB Chris Thompson to a contract extension.

  • Master Tesfatsion reports that Thompson receives a two-year extension that will keep him under team control through the 2019 season.
  • According to Ian Rapoport, Thompson receives $6.5M guaranteed over the course of the extension.

Thompson, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2013. He was unfortunately waived at the start of the 2014 season, but re-signed to their practice squad just a day after being cut.

The Redskins tendered Thompson a one-year exclusive rights contract last year and brought him back on a second-round restricted tender that will cost the Redskins $2.746 million for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Thompson appeared in all 16 games and rushed for 356 yards on 68 carries (5.2 YPC) and to go along with 49 receptions for 349 yards receiving and five total touchdowns. He also contributed 360 kick return yards.
