Chargers Fire Norv Turner & GM A.J. Smith

The San Diego Chargers announced that head coach Norv Turner and GM A.J. Smith have been fired.

“Both Norv and A.J. are consummate NFL professionals, and they understand that in this league, the bottom-line is winning,” said team president Dean Spanos. “My only goal is the Super Bowl, and that is why I have decided to move in a new direction with both our head coach and GM positions.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the San Diego Chargers will fire head coach Norv Turner and GM A.J. Smith on Monday.

Several outlets have been reporting this for weeks now, but it’s probably time for the Chargers to begin a fresh start. Turner continued to put together disappointing season after disappointing season and Smith stood by him throughout, so it makes sense that he too would be gone.

Turner finishes 55-40 in seven seasons with the Chargers.

Colts offensive coordinator and interim head coach Bruce Arians has been linked to the Chargers job for over a week now, but there will likely be other candidates brought in.
