Cowboys Officially Announce The Release Of WR Miles Austin

Update:

The Dallas Cowboys officially announced the release of veteran WR Miles Austin on Wednesday.

Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Cowboys are releasing veteran WR Miles Austin.

  • George adds that Austin will be designated as a post-June 1 cut.

Austin, 29, has reportedly be on the chopping for a few awhile now, and given the Cowboys cap situation, it makes sense that they would go this route, even after they released DE DeMarcus Ware on Tuesday.

The Cowboys could free up $5.5 million in space by designating Austin as a post-June 1 release. However, they will have to wait until later in the year to see any impact on their cap. This should be enough cap space to sign their 2014 rookie class.

Last year, 24 receptions for 244 yards receiving over the course of 12 games.
