Patriots Have Yet To Begin Contract Talks With Darrelle Revis, Could Meet On Monday

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that contract talks between the Patriots and CB Darrelle Revis have yet to get under way,

However, Florio adds that the two sides could begin negotiations starting on Monday.

By then, Revis and his representatives would have a decent idea of who’s interested in him, should he end up being available.

Earlier in the day, Jason Cole spoke to a source within the Patriots who expects them to have a deal in place with Revis before the start of free agency on Tuesday.

According to Cole, New England is hopeful that something will get done in the near future.

However, if the two sides aren’t able to get an extension worked out, Cole mentions that the Patriots will have to let him go, given that his $25 million cap figure would be too much for them for them to take on.

In the event that Revis becomes available, Cole expects there to be seven teams interested in signing Revis with the Jets being the team to watch.

For what it’s worth, Cole says that Revis also wants to get this situation taken care of sooner than later, as he has other things to tend to such as NFLPA matter.

Revis, 29, put together an impressive first year in New England, which could result in another sizable contract for the six-time Pro Bowler.

In 2014, Revis recorded 47 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, a recovery and 14 pass defenses over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has Revis rated as the No. 4 cornerback out of 108 qualifying players.

We have Revis listed as the No. 2 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
