“Safe Bet” That C.J. Spiller Won’t Be Back With The Bills

According to Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550 (via Bleacher Report), it’s a “safe bet” that free agent RB C.J. Spiller won’t be back with the Bills in 2015.

Buscaglia mentions that really hasn’t impressed in the lead role for the Bills and he could be targeting a “substantial” contract in the coming weeks. Because of this, Buscaglia anticipates that Spiller has played his last down for the Bills.

If Buffalo does in fact move on without Spiller next year, Buscaglia can see them considering a running back in the second round of the draft such as Boise State’s Jay Ajayi, Indiana’s Tevin Coleman, and Alabama’s T.J. Yeldon.

Spiller mentioned during interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that he wants to be back in Buffalo next season, but according to him, the “ball is in [the Bills] court.”

The feeling is apparently mutual, as new Bills HC Rex Ryan also mentioned that they would really like to have him return for the 2015 season.

We’d certainly like to have him back and remain a Buffalo Bill,” Ryan said, via Syracuse.com. “He’s a talented guy. I would think that he would want to do that, being in this kind of system, seeing the success that other backs have had in this kind of system. But we’ll see how it works out, also recognizing that, the NFL, sometimes you’re not always able to keep the guys you really want.

There has been a lot of buzz that Spiller could consider signing with the Jets, who have hired former Bills HC Chan Gailey as their new offensive coordinator.

However, the running back market is extremely deep, which means even though there are some talented players available, there is no guarantee that they’ll be able to break the bank.

Spiller, 27, finished out his five-year, $25,672,087 rookie contract with the Bills that included $11,854,169 guaranteed and is now in position to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks.

In 2014, Spiller was limited to appearing in nine games and rushing for 300 yards on 78 carries (3.8 YPC) to go along with 19 receptions for 125 yards receiving and one touchdown.

We have Spiller currently listed as the No. 38 player in our Top 1oo Free Agents list.
