Eagles DE Connor Barwin mentioned during an interview with Howard Eskin that QB Sam Bradford texted him that he plans to report to the team’s facility on Monday, and end his holdout.
“He’ll be here today. I talked to him. He’ll be here this week — he’ll be here today,” Barwin told Eskin, via PhillyMag.com. “I feel like I’m the Sam Bradford like news — reporting for Sam. But yeah, he’ll be here today.
“He texted me and said, ‘I’ll see you tomorrow.’ And I said, ‘I can’t wait man.”
Bradford really had no leverage in this situation outside of threatening to retire, and even that would have forced him to pay back a portion of his signing bonus.
It’s still possible that he could be traded at some point, but the Eagles have made it clear that they have no plans to give him away. Beyond that, it would probably take an injury to a team’s starter for them consider making an offer for Bradford.
Philadelphia has maintained that Bradford will be their starter, even after they used the No. 2 overall pick on Carson Wentz.
Bradford, 28, signed a two-year, $36 million contract that included $26 million guaranteed with the Eagles over a month ago. He stands to make base salaries of $7 million and $13 million over the next two years.
In 2015, Bradford appeared in 14 games for the Eagles and threw for 3,725 yards while completing 65 percent of his passes to go along with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
