Jason La Canfora of NFL Network writes that the Seattle Seahawks are “deep in talks” with RB Marshawn Lynch regarding a long-term deal. La Canfora adds that a deal could be in place before the March 5 franchise tag deadline but mentions that Seattle is ready and willing to us their tag if necessary.
Lynch, 25, has generated a lot of buzz in recent years because of his spectacular highlights but he’s yet to put together a truly amazing season. Yes, last year he rushed for over 1200 yards and scored 12 touchdown while playing on a sub-par offense but Lynch struggles in the passing game and is a true non-factor when it comes to pass-blocking.
Seattle would be wise to stick with the tag for now and buy another year before they’ll have to commit to decide on his long-term future with the team. We have Lynch listed as the #22 best available free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
