Stevan Ridley’s Lack Of Playing Time Due To Pats Game Plan

ESPNBoston.com’s Mike Reiss believes the reason why the Patriots used Danny Woodhead in their backfield more than Stevan Ridley was the result of the Patriots’ overall game plan.

“With the Patriots pressing the issue with the no-huddle, it called on third-down/passing back Woodhead getting the majority of the snaps over Ridley,” wrote Reiss. “The Patriots were going primarily with their three-receiver package and playing fast. They wanted a change-of-pace back, a top pass-protector, in the game for that. The Patriots have done this for years.”

Although Ridley had nearly 200 yards rushing heading into Sunday night’s game against the Ravens, it seems they didn’t want to use a power run game against the Baltimore’s tough front-seven. The change in tempo and and no-huddle offense did seem to work for the Patriots as they hung 30 points against the Ravens defense. Look for the Patriots to use Ridley more this week as they take on the Bills
