Texans Waive WR Jaelen Strong, Re-Sign WR Andy Jones

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Texans are placing WR Jaelen Strong on waivers Monday.

  • According to Aaron Wilson, the Texans have re-signed WR Andy Jones.

Strong was suspended for the first game of the 2017 season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Strong, 23, was taken in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft by the Texans. He’s in the third year of his four-year, $3.281 million rookie contract that included $820,338 guaranteed.

Strong stands to make base salaries of $615,000 (2017), and $705,000 (2018) over the remainder of the contract.

In 2016, Strong appeared in eight games for the Texans and recorded 14 receptions for 131 yards receiving.

Jones, 23, originally signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Jacksonville back in May of last year. Dallas later waived him and signed him to their practice squad once he cleared waivers.

The Cowboys signed him to a futures deal in January but elected to waive him as they trimmed their roster down to the 53-man limit. Jones was later claimed off of waivers by the Texans but was cut loose last week.

Jones has yet to appear in an NFL game.
