It’s worth mentioning that the Vikings could also place RB Adrian Peterson on injured reserve at some point, which would factor into whether Kalil would be designated to return later on this season.
Vikings HC Mike Zimmer announced Wednesday that they’ve placing LT Matt Kalil on injured reserve after he undergoes surgery for his hip injury tomorrow.
Kalil, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2012. He’s currently playing out the 2016 season under his fifth-year option worth $11.09 million.
Kalil will be an unrestricted free agent next year.
His 2016 season comes to an end with him appearing in two games for the Vikings. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 65 offensive tackle out of 67 qualifying players.
