The San Francisco 49ers announced that OLB Aldon Smith has been activated from the the non-football injury list.
- Ian Rapoport reports that the 49ers had to activate Smith by rule because he was no longer in rehab.
- Mike Silver of the NFL Network (via Ian Rapoport) reports that Smith will have toย earn his role back and there’s no guarantee he’ll play next week.
Smith was on anย indefinite leave of absence from the team, but it appears as though the 49ers believe he is ready to return to the field following their Week 9 bye. San Francisco had an open roster spot after releasing WR Marlon Moore on Wednesday.
Smith just turned himself in yesterday for felony weapons charges that stem from an incident from June of 2012. Smith immediately posted bailย of $75,000ย and isย scheduled to appear in court to face the pending charges on Nov. 12 and on Nov. 19.ย Smith faces weapons charges, along with misdemeanor DUI and drug charges.
