49ers Plan To Either Pick Up S Eric Reid’s Fifth-Year Option Or Sign Him To Long-Term Deal

49ersย GM Trent Baalke told reporters on Wednesday that they plan to either pick up Sย Eric Reid‘s fifth-year option or sign him to a long-termย contract at some point in the near future, per Cam Inman.

The fifth-year option will run the 49ers $5.6 million in 2017, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

Reid, 24, was taken with the No. 18 overall pick back in 2013. He’s in the final year of his four-year, $8.398 million rookie contractย and stands to make a base salary ofย $1,561,467 for the 2106 season.

In 2015,ย Reid appeared in 15 games for the 49ers and recorded 42 tackles, three interceptions, and seven pass defenses.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 safety out of 89 qualifying players.
